Jakarta, 10 February 2015 – NEC Indonesia announced today its commitment in Indonesia, to contribute to developing more advanced social infrastructure as part of its efforts to drive growth in Asia Pacific and Indonesia through provision of its ‘solutions for society’ offerings.
As Indonesia continues to experience rapid urbanization and urban development – World Bank estimates Indonesia’s urban population to be at 52% in 2014, up from 51% in 2013* – there is a greater need for ICT infrastructure and services to support the growth. In earlier reports, IDC estimated IT spending will continue to record double digit year-on-year growth to achieve US$16.5 billion by end 2014**.
NEC aims to contribute its solutions for society offerings to Indonesia and Asia Pacific, which include safe city operations, cybersecurity, smart energy, aviation, public transportation, traffic management, law enforcement and more.
With over 50 years of business operations in Indonesia, NEC Indonesia will localize and adapt the innovative technologies and solutions from Japan and Asia Pacific region for local government and business implementations. NEC’s started its business in Indonesia in the 1960’s providing telecommunications and broadcasting solutions to the local telecommunication service providers.
NEC has established regional centres recently that will provide resources to support business growth in Asia Pacific region, with the Global Safety Division and NEC Laboratories Singapore (NLS) set up in Singapore, and the Regional Retail Business Support Centre set up in Kuala Lumpur.
“NEC has the technologies to enable smarter and safer city operations in Indonesia. With Indonesia’s high mobile penetration rate, governments can leverage on connected devices and mobile networks to enhance public infrastructure, and respond to the demands of citizens in real-time. New technologies can enable remote surveillance and control – Video analytics surveillance and sensor systems can help monitor, track and disseminate information to build a safe and smart environment,” said Takayuki Kano, President Director, NEC Indonesia.
He added, “With the new Indonesian government’s commitment to economic growth and development, there is much potential for infrastructure development and ICT projects in the country. With over 50 years of business operations in Indonesia, NEC has deep expertise and experience operating in the Indonesian landscape. We look forward to working with the government and enterprises to bring NEC’s solutions that can enable greater safety, security and efficiency for citizens and businesses in Indonesia.”
The NEC Innovative Solutions Fair 2015 was held on 10 February 2015 in Jakarta, at Ritz Carlton Hotel, which showcased NEC’s leading edge technologies. The conference saw Dr Nobuhiro Endo, President of NEC Corporation giving the keynote address, with speeches from Guest-of-honour Mr. Rudiantara Minister of Communication & Information Technology and other leaders.
