NEC Indonesia Promotes Digital Transformation in the Manufacturing Sector

Jakarta, 12 March 2021 – PT. NEC Indonesia (NEC Indonesia) has called on the manufacturing sector in Indonesia to embrace digital transformation at the NEC Industry 4.0 Web Summit. Under the theme "What's Next for Digital Transformation in Manufacturing Industry 4.0", over 450 key industry players and representatives attended the event, which featured a keynote address by the Minister for Industry, Mr. Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita. The summit was held on 9 March 2021 and jointly organized by NEC Indonesia and the Big Data & AI Association (ABDI).

Industry  4.0, also known as industrial transformation 4.0, will assist the manufacturing sector in responding to challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic by adjusting and implementing health protocols, optimizing and enhancing process management and human resources through digital means. An increasing number of manufacturing companies have implemented or are implementing a number of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), big data and analytics to drive growth and profitability.

With the acceleration of digitalization and deployment of IoT in the manufacturing industry, aspects of safety, maintenance efficiency and product quality can be visualized and analyzed based on data collected by a large number of sensors installed in various facilities and factory locations.

“NEC believes the increased use of various types of digital data will create new solutions with greater value. Companies that can harness data to deliver greater value will stand-out in this new era," said Mr Edi Rachmadi, Operations Director, NEC Indonesia.

“The manufacturing sector’s operations are highly complex as it involves human-machine interaction. Manufacturers in Indonesia must invest in digital transformation and optimize their processes so they can continue their development during and beyond this pandemic. By using AI in manufacturing. Manufacturers gain the ability to make key decisions based on real-time data and enhance their production process. Quality control and overall productivity will also be significantly improved as a result. NEC wants to help Indonesia’s manufacturing sector succeed and elevate Indonesia’s reputation as a manufacturing hub,” added Mr. Rachmadi.

Mr Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry, said, “Indonesia has set 10 national priorities towards Indonesia 4.0 for the manufacturing sector. The 10 priorities are: enhancing the logistics ecosystem; redesigning industrial zones; opening up more opportunities; empowering SMEs; building a future-ready national digital infrastructure; attracting foreign investors; enhancing the quality of local talents; building an innovation ecosystem; encouraging technology investments; and harmonizing policies.”

“We are also actively coordinating and building cooperative networks among stakeholders to accelerate the transformation to industry 4.0. The Ministry has initiated an industrial ecosystem 4.0 called the Indonesian Ecosystem 4.0 (SINDI 4.0) to serve as a forum for synergy and collaboration between the government and other sectors, including industry players, academics and R&D, technical providers, consultants and financial institutes. With more companies embracing digital transformation, the Ministry of Industry is optimistic that in 2021, the manufacturing industry in Indonesia will continue to grow," added Mr Kartasasmita.

The NEC Industry 4.0 Web Summit featured various reputable speakers, including: Mr David Budiono, Director, Production, Engineering & Procurement, PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM); Mr Ali Murtopo Simbolon, Director, Electronics and Telematics Industry, Ministry of Industry; Mr Fathan F.
