Critical Infrastructure Management

Disruption in critical facilities impacts a large number of people, and can result in heavy loss to lives and economy. Infrastructures such as Airports, mass transit systems, power plants, telecommunication exchanges, water supply facilities etc. are critical elements for a city’s operation and require 24/7 monitoring.

Early detection of suspicious behavior or individuals in restricted areas, and preventing illegal entry is the best approach to averting serious damage or injury.

To effectively safeguard critical infrastructure, NEC provides integrated solutions such as advanced Video Analytics, and multi-modal biometrics to help enhance safety and security of critical infrastructures. Our high-tech identification matching technologies at designated points of access enables both proactive and preventive measures to better secure and manage those areas.

Vital Installations

In any city, there are vital installations that require heightened security such as power generation plants, telecommunication exchanges, or the city’s water supply.

NEC has a range of solutions for protecting these assets. On the ground, NEC has high sensitivity cameras to capture video images, even in low light. Data from these cameras can be analyzed by NEC’s behavior detection systems that automatically detect suspicious behavior.

NEC also has effective end-to-end, granular access control system using biometric recognition to manage the movement of people through sensitive facilities.

By combining biometrics and CCTV, the system can detect the misuse of ID cards, tailgating and intruders enabling efficient control with high speed processing capabilities.

In addition, NEC has a vehicle clearance system that relies on character recognition of license plates to record entry and exit and that allows for the video scanning of the undercarriages of vehicles for security purposes.

Public Transportation

Public transportation networks have emerged as popular targets for terror attacks. Attacks on trains are especially popular because of their potential human and economic impact. To manage on-train security, NEC has a train-borne security and communications system that allows authorities to improve security and communications on mass transit systems.

The station-and-train-borne communication system performs several interface functions, including Train-borne Public Address, Passenger Information System, Passenger Emergency Communication, CCTV, Alarm and Status Management and backup systems.

Aviation Security

Automated Radar Terminal System

Based on decades of experience, NEC has developed numerous solutions aimed at improving aviation security for cities. Some of NEC's solutions include the Automated Radar Terminal System (ARTS) and the Transportable Radar Control System (TRCS).

ARTS is a state-of-the-art air traffic management system designed to meet the needs of air traffic approach control facilities in a variety of operational environments and traffic densities. TRCS provides an essential radar air traffic control service at an airport where its air traffic control system is inoperative due to unexpected accidents and/or disasters or its equipment upgrade work.

Flight Information Display System

Boasting high usability, readability and sophistication in design, NEC's Flight Information Display System (FIDS) is a user-friendly, comprehensive solution for the display of flight-related information benefiting travelers, airline staff, and others in airports.

Providing real-time information essential for passengers, such as flight information, announcements, weather reports, and news, its advanced, wide-ranging features include system architecture built on NEC's open mission-critical system (OMCS).

Bird Strike Mitigation System

NEC’s state-of-the-art Bird Strike Mitigation System detects and monitors birds near airports to prevent the occurrence of bird strikes. The system instructs bird patrol personnel to drive away birds before an incident can occur.

Detecting birds via radars, cameras, and image processing technology, the system then processes the detected information. Based on the information, the controller directs bird patrol personnel to drive away any birds and implements measures to mitigate a bird strike in real-time.

Maritime & Seaport Security

Seaports, like airports, see a large amount of daily human traffic that needs to be handled swiftly, while at the same time, keeping out undesirables. NEC has developed a biometrics based Automated Passenger Clearance System that provides fast and accurate passenger clearance by checking fingerprint information.

This system has been rolled out in Macau and has been deployed at four locations, including ferry terminals and border crossings.
